All-in-one solution: electric actuator with integral controller
The new EQ series of slide-type and rod-type electric actuators from SMC feature a fully integrated controller, providing a simpler to set-up, easier-to-use, space-saving solution that simultaneously helps users to save energy and reduce CO2 emissions. As a further advantage, EQ series electric actuators offer straightforward control with simple and exclusive software which helps users to start the actuators working via a single screen in just three steps. First, users choose ‘set operation mode’, before specifying the stopping positions and finally defining the speed, acceleration and deceleration values. It is no more complex than controlling a two- or three-position solenoid valve.
Delivering all the usual SMC benefits of precision and flexibility, EQFS (slide type) and EQY (rod type) electric actuators overcome many automation project issues, including insufficient space in the electrical cabinet, the need to improve efficiency and lack of knowledge in controller programming. The EQ series is ideal for a whole host of motion control applications, including transfer, assembly, lifting, dispensing, pressing and clamping, essentially enhancing any automatic process that does not feature a PLC.
Save space & reduce cables
Notably, the electric actuator and controller are part of the same product, avoiding wiring between the two and saving valuable space. This simplified configuration, alongside the use of only three connectors, also eases set-up and facilitates immediate use.
Importantly, SMC EQ series actuators are highly energy-efficient, consuming less power than comparable product types and, in turn, reducing CO2 emissions. The secrets here include an optimised motor specification, updated control method and improved rotational efficiency, resulting in reduced heat generation from the motor and lower power consumption. Depending on the operating conditions, it is possible to reduce emissions by up to 60% compared with existing solutions.
Easy retrofit
To simplify retrofit applications, the EQ series, in both slide and rod types, has the same mounting dimensions as a number of electric actuators on the market, making for easy replacement. In addition, they have the same compatibility with the auto switches, allowing actuator detection over the entire stroke.
Maintenance requirements also diminish with the adoption of EQ series electric actuators. Full controller integration and simple component design reduce cables and the potential for faults. Furthermore, the use of robust and reliable M12 connectors supports outdoor use, if required.
