Avoid moisture with SMC’s new condensation checker
SMC is unveiling its PSH condensation checker to provide designers and users of pneumatic systems with a highly reliable yet cost-effective way of monitoring temperature and humidity. The new PSH is a very useful device for visualising issues and preventing condensation before it leads to the potential malfunction, failure and costly replacement of important system components.
Design engineers, equipment quality inspectors and maintenance technicians responsible for pneumatic systems can all benefit from avoiding the damaging effects of condensation in many industry applications. Such applications include dry air purge for spindles or linear encoders in machine tools, purge air control for laser machining heads, and water control in compressed air used by food packaging equipment. It is simply not possible to ensure high-quality compressed air without monitoring its moisture levels.
Full steam ahead
The new PSH condensation checker from SMC provides the optimal solution, digitally monitoring the temperature and relative humidity of compressed air so that customers can identify when condensation is likely to occur. Even if an air dryer or filter/mist separator is in place, customers will not be aware of the air’s dryness level, so the PSH helps obtain this valuable information.
To assist machine builders, SMC’s compact PSH series is a complete solution, integrating a sensor and two-level display in a single device to avoid the need for separate products and minimise space requirements. For those seeking a complete solution, the comprehensive product portfolio available from SMC makes it a single-source supplier for all dry, clean compressed-air requirements. The PSH condensation checker can connect directly to the company’s popular IDG series membrane dryer, for example, or with SMC’s air combination units (filter/regulator/lubricator) via a simple T-spacer.
Excellent communication links
Along with switch and analogue voltage outputs, the PSH series is compatible with IO-Link. Easy serial communication allows access to all numerical values in the sensor and the remote control of industrial networks. The PSH series facilitates condition monitoring and the remote confirmation of relative humidity and temperature by electric signals. The device can output relative humidity (0 to 100%) and temperature (0 to 50ºC) data as switch output (switchable between PNP and NPN), analogue voltage output and IO-Link (process data).
To ensure of ease-of-use, the PSH offers user-friendly visualisation of different parameters via its two-level screen. The main screen (two-colour display) shows either temperature or relative humidity (switchable), while the sub-screen displays a reading, set value, peak value, bottom value, level bar or IO-Link communication status. The display can rotate 360º.
For simplifying the way in which relative humidity is measured at different pressure levels, a new function has been added. This way, users of this condensation checker will be able to choose how to visualise relative humidity. On the one hand, it is possible to visualise relative humidity at atmospheric pressure. On the other hand, there is a possibility of inputting the operating pressure, so that the calculation and display of the relative humidity under pressure is possible.
For engineers and technicians looking to avoid the problems that condensation brings, such as the failure and replacement of system-critical components like valves and actuators, SMC’s new PSH series offers a genuine solution.
